MISC:The rain forest of the Ivory Coast contains valuable timber
species of African Mahogany, Iroko (or African Teak), and Makore. The
terrain is mostly flat to undulating plains with mountains in the
northwest. 9% of the land is arable. Over 85% of the work force is
engaged in agriculture, forestry, and livestock raising. About 20% of
the population are workers from other countries. The Ivory Coast has
heavy surf and no natural harbors. Member of UN since 1960. Became
independent in 1960.
